【QUIET START TO JAPAN'S SPRING HOLIDAY WEEK　/人影まばらな大型連休】
 
In Japan, people appear to be heeding a call to stay at home during the national spring holiday period.
Across the country, roads, public transportation services, and tourist spots are all quiet
as the state of emergency nears the end of its first month.Saturday is the first day of a five-day holiday.
 
Stations and airports are usually crowded with families heading across the country to see relatives or flying overseas.
But this year, many people appear to be complying with a government request to isolate instead.
 
Japan Railway companies say many shinkansen bullet trains were running at less than 10 percent capacity.
 
The number of people taking domestic flights has also plunged. All Nippon Airways says reservations are down
by nearly 95 percent from a year earlier. Japan Airlines has reported a decline of about 90 percent.
 
 
 
 
 
日本の人々は、春の連休期間中も外出を自粛するようにという呼びかけを強く意識しているようです。
緊急事態宣言が出されて間もなく１か月が過ぎようとするなか、日本全国の道路や公共交通機関、それに観光地は閑散としています。
土曜日（５月２日）は５連休の初日で、例年ですと列車の駅や空港は、帰省客や海外旅行に出かける家族でごった返します。
しかし今年は、多くの人々が、他人との接触を避けるようにという政府の要請に従うことにしたようです。
ＪＲ各社によりますと、多くの新幹線の乗車率は１０％未満だということです。
また、国内線の空の便も利用客が激減しています。全日空の予約状況は去年の同じ時期と比べて９５％近く、また日本航空もおよそ９０％落ち込んでいます。
